Rennweg
Project: Renovation of Residential and Commercial Building
Scope of work: Project and Construction Management
Client: Private Owner & Confiserie Honold AG
Architecture: Stücheli Architekten AG
Location: Rennweg 53, Zurich
Planning & Execution: 2023 – Present
The building at Rennweg 53 in Zurich is a historically significant residential and commercial property, with origins dating back to the 16th century, and forms part of the prominent continuous building line along the lower Rennweg. As part of a comprehensive renovation, interventions from the 20th century are being removed, the facade is partially restored with historical interpretation, and the building structure is functionally reorganized. The project includes six new rental apartments with 2‑ and 4‑room layouts across four floors, as well as a maisonette apartment spanning two mansard floors with access to a new roof terrace. On the ground floor, the traditional Confiserie Honold with its boulevard-facing café is preserved.
Duboc + Friedrich is responsible for the project and construction management. Our scope of work includes coordinating project stakeholders, liaising with consultants and contractors, site supervision, cost, schedule, and quality control, as well as ensuring the smooth execution of complex renovation works in a heritage-protected context. Special attention is given to the logistical challenges of the building’s central location and to coordination within the inner-city environment, taking into account neighboring properties, traffic management, and adjacent uses.
